My friends popped round to help with the planning. After much hilarity and cursing – I now know not to build scenery on top of screws needed to disassemble benchwork especially if you want to keep the scenery sections later – we had cut up my existing layout. The no-lix became a helix in the corner and I gained an upper peninsula to go above the car float on the lower one. Now we just need to work out how to keep the upper peninsula up rather than have a support in the middle of the lower deck ocean. I also gained a helix which needs much more thought.
As you can see, there was a lot of acrobatics getting out one section of the layout which was to be saved:
