I couldn’t face painting the last coat of blue so I worked on my car float and pier. The car float is a Walthers kit but it is turning out to be a pain for painting. They never mention in the instuctions about painting – perhaps you’re expected to use the lovely shiny plastic finish? The problem comes when you are half way through building and it tells you to put the counterweights inside a gantry leg and attach a string to the car float. You then need to move the car float apron to the right height for your unbuilt car float and stick the string down before putting a gantry top on. Goodness knows when you are supposed to paint it with thread involved. I’m building up the subsections and will paint them the individual colours and perhaps by then the sea and car float will also be ready to install so I can get the car float apron height correct.
