I’ve been busy colouring in the slates. I do wish I had read the bit where Bob VG says that you can colour them in before laying them… it would be much easier. Anyway, it’s therapeutic after a day at the office.
First I used Cool Grey 3
Then Ice Grey 3
And still to come, Warm Grey 3. Quite often my roofs end up more stridently coloured. My old grey pens were drying out and some slates were very dark. I’m much happier with these subtle greys that are all more in the same tone (3 from the labels) giving a more harmonious finish. I guess that in the UK, slates are much darker and normally the roofs match as the slate would be local or from the same source (Wales or the Lakes). I don’t see the luscious purple slate as much in photos of the US. My garden has a lovely green slate from Coniston. I just love the colour!
