Thursday 13th February – Jim EuDaly’s layout

After lunch, Stephen and I went to James EuDaly’s O scale C&O layout set in the fall of 1948. It is awesome.

This scene is based on a photo Jim took of his wife sitting by the depot – even down to the shoes she was wearing:

I ran a 40 foot long (in the real world) coal train with 35 hoppers.

You can see the engine of the left and the end of the train on the right:

Stephen ran this train:

I then set the Dispatcher’s panel, a real one, for the George Washington, a double headed steam-pulled 12 car passenger train. Each car is 20″ long. You can stand in the middle of a curve and see your train on both sides! His scenery is stunning and the whole layout is truly breathtaking.

Jim has a set of relays, not used for routing, but there for the noise.

Jim also has his layout set up for night running:

Even the fire boxes are lit with a flickering red glow.
