How to Model Rusty Pipes
Continuing with culverts, this week we are looking at how to model a rusty pipe.
The rust effect is achieved using Deluxe Materials Scenic Rust which adds real particles of iron suspended in a glue which are then rusted with a developing solution. The effect is very realistic, although to my mind, better in the larger scales and a little too coarse for HO.
The video also shows how to add realistic water to the pipe using acrylic gloss medium and even bubbles!
The Real World
Rusty pipes are incredibly common and images are easy to find by googling. Here’s a few examples to set the scene.
Materials
- Deluxe Materials Scenic Rust
- Acrylic gloss medium
- Deluxe Materials Icy Sparkles
- White acrylic paint
- Clear plastic acetate (or any packaging plastic)
