Rusty Tank

I was experimenting with rust on an old On30 Backwoods Miniatures dress up kit tank. This is Deluxe Materials real rust and has particles of iron suspended in a dilute glue liquid. You add a developer and voila, real rust. It’s great in larger scales but looks a little overdone on HO or below.

The background is a peeling paint experiment using the Chuck Doan method of soaking the wood with a spirit based solvent (I used methylated spirits) and then painting on an acrylic paint. It doesn’t stick well and so flakes off easily if you score it with a knife and scrape it.

Overall, I was really pleased how this came out.
