Tyseley Locomotive Works
Tyseley Locomotive Works, Birmingham, is the home to Vintage Trains who run express steam trains across the UK mainline rail network.
It is one of the original top 50 rail depots in U.K. and the only one left still working. It opened in 1908 and has had a working steam loco on site every day since then.
In 1956 they started preserving locomotives and in 1964 they purchased their own locos. It has an award winning workshop preserving the skills associated with the steam rail industry and includes 5-6 people under 40 working there.
Over the years they have rebuilt:
- Rood Aston Hall (2 cylinder)
- Earl of Mount Edgcumbe
- Clun Castle £950k restoration
- 3 GWR 460s
- Twin panniers
They also laid the frames of Tornado before it went up North to be finished.

Thanks for the informative blog Kathy, as an ex pat I much enjoy the British side of things, nice change from our North American stuff. Really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.

It’s distinctively different outline to North American, isn’t it.
Thanks!

Kathy,
Love the weathered wood, rusty metal amongst the shiny rebuilt equipment.
Lots of great modeling hints.
Thank you for sharing.

I don’t understand how to save these posts when on your site,so maybe I’ll forget it since I’m a stupid guy anyway. I always have trouble to get these copied, thats how it is when I want to get ahead in this hobby. I’m very depressed right now,and want to smashup my layout, since I have no help anyway,so goodbye Kathey.
It was nice while it lasted I guess, take care

Every browser is different but try right clicking and choosing an option that says save.
There’s no need to save the posts though as you can read them all on the website. I’m not planning on taking them down!
