Statfold Barn Enthusiast’s Day 2018

Statfold Barn Enthusiast’s Day 2018

I love the Statfold Barn railway.  It’s a private railway owned by a real enthusiast!

What I love about this layout is the professionalism – they’ve built new facilities since my last visit – and how much is in steam.  It’s also a chance to ride on velocipedes (you can find out more about them here).

There’s a mile and a half track with a balloon loop at the end and you can go round in carriages or a goose (we did both).  There’s also a roundhouse, engine sheds and a new tram line.

A real highlight was the new Hunslet Museum which includes the King of Scarlets which is a loco I could model.  More on that in a future post…

Here’s a few photos from a very gray day and you can see the video that I did a couple of year’s ago here.

This is great. Also I hadn’t seen the 2016 video; that brought a smile to my face. And you get to ride on the turntable! The handcar/pump car reminds me of the opening scenes of ‘Blazing Saddles.’

  2. Looks like a great day out, I had a go on that pump trolley myself last September, which was my first visit. Unfortunately I had a model railway to look after so didn’t have as much time to look around as I had hoped, but will hopefully be back again for an event this year.
