Trees, trees, trees

Deadline – 2022

I got back from North America with a new deadline – 2022!

We successfully bid to hold the NMRA National Convention in Birmingham, UK, in 2022.  As Convention Committee Chair I am going to be very busy but a number of people have already said to me that they are expecting to see my layout.  Well that’s spurred me on and instead of languishing it is now getting a bit of TLC.

It may be 6 years away but time is my biggest enemy; work and my weekly videos take almost all my time so I’m going to have to carve out a dedicated daily slot, even if it’s only half an hour to get some of it done.  I’m also going to start concentrating my videos on my layout rather than stand alone dioramas where I can. I’ve already started that with the roads so we’ll see how it goes as there is so much I can show.

Where am I?

As to my layout, a bit of track needs relaying on the upper level but it mostly just needs scenery, buildings and love.

I will post something about the layout in more detail but here’s what I have been working on a little this week:  trees.  I started this hillside last year some time but hadn’t got very far.

The aim is to show smaller distant trees at the back and full size trees at the front.  It kind of works here but there isn’t enough space around the rest of the room so it’s just layers of bigger trees.

You can see how I did the trees on this video: How to make cheap eBay trees look good.

Good meeting you in Indianapolis, Kathy. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing your layout. Nothing like a deadline to spur you on. I really love your videos too. Keep up the great work, inspiring us all to pick up the scale picks and shovels!

    • Thanks Mike

It was great to meet so many people in Indy. The deadline’s fine until I get back to work and my time evaporates and then it all becomes a bit tense…

  2. Never have enough trees unless you are modeling a docklands scene like I am currently. Old layout had a gazillion trees.
